The Genocide Continues

Some of the worst effects of Israel’s genocide have yet to materialize fully: mass starvation, widespread disease, and long-term psychological effects. The impact of this manufactured atrocity will never be captured in numbers, nor will it ever be truly illustrated through individual stories, because the vast majority of people will never have the lived experience to relate to what has happened to the people of Gaza specifically, and in general, the families of Palestinians. Now, four months in, Israel’s attack has broken records for how violent the assault has been. Since October, Israel has killed roughly 100 children a day and has shown little signs of slowing down, with Gaza's medical infrastructure all but decimated.

Total Fatalities : Israel's military has killed 27,708 Palestinians. This is only the number of confirmed deaths, meaning those who reached a hospital to be counted. This includes a significant number of vulnerable populations, with 12,000 children and 8,190 women among those killed. The data also highlights the risks faced by those attempting to provide aid and report on the situation, with 46 civil defense members, 123 press members, and 339 medical personnel killed.

Massacres : The data reports 2,380 instances classified as massacres, suggesting large-scale and particularly deadly events.

Injuries : The total number of injured individuals is reported to be 67,147, indicating the widespread impact of Israel's systematic targeting of residential areas.

The Democratic Party has been underwriting this genocide from day one and continues to actively work to generate public support for the mass slaughter of Palestinians. Joe Biden, Bernie Sanders, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and other members of the "The Squad" have all played essential roles in ensuring that the Israeli state has the financial, logistical, and political support to articulate its program of ethnic cleansing. As such, any solidarity organizing to stop this genocide must include tactics that directly challenge not only the Democratic Party but also the institutions and individuals that give it legitimacy in the public sphere. While "No Ceasefire! No Votes!" is becoming more mainstream in organizing spaces, it should not be understood as a short- term tactic but rather as a longer-term organizing principle to dismantle the DNC. Yesterday, US Democrats rejected a bill that would have given $17.6 billion dollars of additional military funding to Israel, four months into the state’s genocide of Palestinians in Gaza. The bill was rejected in the House of Representatives, though not out of any moral concerns about funding genocide; Democrats were hoping for a bill that would also fund the war in Ukraine and US “border security.”
